How DHS and Our Partners Assist Infrastructure Security Professionals
The DHS Office of Infrastructure Protection leads the national effort to make America’s infrastructure more secure and resilient. Protective Security Advisor Pete Owen will explain how the Office of Infrastructure Protection and its partners can assist critical infrastructure owners and operators. Pete will explain how the National Infrastructure Protection Plan works, will outline key partners in San Diego, and will describe how these partners can help you. While focused on critical infrastructure, many of the resources developed by DHS are available at no cost to all security professionals. By understanding how DHS helps protect infrastructure, you will be better able to work with regional partners and leverage their assistance.
Guest Speaker Bio:
Pete Owen is the Department of Homeland Security’s Protective Security Advisor for the District of San Diego. He serves as the department’s liaison to federal, state, local, tribal officials and to the private sector for the security of critical infrastructure in Imperial, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and San Diego Counties.
He served in the US Marine Corps for over twenty years in a variety of infantry, reconnaissance, and security assignments. He served in Kurdistan, Northern Iraq in 1991 and in the invasion of Iraq in 2003. His final assignment on active duty was as the director of amphibious raid, reconnaissance, and water survival training at Coronado, California.
Pete graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1986, and holds a masters degree from the Marine Corps University. Pete became a Certified Protection Professional® through ASIS in 2010. He is the author of To the Limit of Endurance: a Battalion of Marines in the Great War.
Pete was appointed to DHS in October, 2008.
