Security Professional’s Award: August, 2012

The San Diego ASIS Security Professional’s Award recognizes individuals in the security industry who have provided exemplary service “above and beyond the call of duty.”  The recipient of this award for August, 2012 is:

Joshua Michael Culver
ASIS San Diego Chapter 016

Josh Culver is the consummate Security Professional. His security experience spans the past 15 years and includes several years tenure at the Getty Center in Los Angeles first as a Security Officer and then Security Supervisor; Vice President of a Computer and Security Systems Design and Installation Company; Assistant Director of Security and then Security Director at the San Diego Natural History Museum in Balboa Park; Executive Protection Specialist for numerous celebrities and prominent political figures; and Security Consultant to the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Bejing, China. Josh promoted to his current position, Director of Operations, at the world-famous San Diego Natural History Museum in February 2012; in this vital role he oversees and directs the all functions of the Security, IT, and Building Operations Departments, and he supervises all assigned personnel.

Since Josh began his assignment at the Natural History Museum in May 2007, he has ensured the security of ten major exhibitions including the Dead Sea Scrolls, Pompeii, Shona, Body Worlds, All That Glitters (an extraordinary gems and jewelry exhibit), Horses, Dinosaurs, Reptiles, and currently, Titanic. During the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibition alone, over one million visitors toured the Museum and experienced the magnificence and awe of the irreplaceable, centuries-old national treasures from five countries that were displayed. Security screening included extensive bag checks of all attendees and confiscation of contraband items when necessary. All told since Josh started at the Museum, two million plus visitors have been treated to the splendors and magic of exhibits that have enriched their lives, enlivened their imagination, and expanded their appreciation of our amazing world. And they have done so safely, securely, and unobtrusively with no adverse occurrences, loss or damage.

This is a direct tribute to Josh’s supervision, direction, and highly effective oversight of security and safety for the exhibitions, the Museum, staff, volunteers, and visitors from all over the world. Josh’s performance and achievements represent the highest standards of excellence in the Security profession. He is therefore awarded this well-deserved recognition as Security Professional of the Month for August 2012 by ASIS San Diego Chapter 016. Congratulations on a job well done!
